At SPB Carpentry & Joinery, we love a challenge — and this recent project in Abingdon was exactly that.

Our client wanted a sleek, built-in bookcase to frame an existing doorway, turning an unused section of wall into a standout feature. The catch? The house had been built on an angle, with the side walls sloping slightly toward the back wall. That meant precision was key, especially when scribing the side fillers to fit snugly and seamlessly.

✨ Designed to Fit — Literally

We started with a detailed 3D design, giving the client a clear visual of how the final piece would look once installed. With the green light, we built the bookcase in our workshop, using a clean, symmetrical layout to suit the space.

The unit was crafted to a finished size of 2550mm high by 1500mm wide, offering ample storage while maintaining balance around the doorway.

To achieve a flawless finish, the unit was spray-finished off-site in “All White”, giving it a timeless look that blends beautifully into the space.

💡 Smart Joinery for Real Homes

Fitting cabinetry to a space where nothing is square takes experience and a steady hand — and this job was a great example of how thoughtful design and expert craftsmanship can make even the most awkward corners work beautifully.

Whether you’re looking to turn a blank wall into a home library or integrate smart storage around your architecture, we can help you visualise and build a solution that fits perfectly — even when the walls don’t.
